I have now decided which direction to take, and my next range of 28mm figures will be for the South American Wars of Liberation. I have started working on figures for the Argentine army, concentrating in the first instance on the Army of the Andes due to the distinctive uniforms worn by some units.
The first figures are for the Argentine units involved at the battle of Chacabuco and wear the short jacket. The picture above shows the ensign, drummer, grenadier (wearing the distinctive bag attached to the shako) and an officer urging the men onward.
The second picture shows four marching infantry, in various poses including one wearing a forage cap, which appears to have been quite a popular item of headwear. Next up will be some Spanish and then Chileans or Cazadored de los Andes.
I have chosen to start in the middle of the period as the early years are fairly well catered for at present by many Napoleonic types whereas the later years showed some uniform adaptations and changes.
I'll keep you up to date as I do more.
Hopefully these will be ready for release later in the year, when I have enough to form the basics for either side, and will be available individually as well as in packs.
More information can be found at the Liberators web site, run by John Fletcher who has produced three books so far as a guide to Napoleonic Wargaming in South America, as well as the Liberators Yahoo Group.
I suppose I chose the period as it is ideally suited to wargaming, colourful armies and generally relatively small battles.

A great choice for a new period, I've looked through a few books, the uniforms should be great to paint. I look forward to seeing lots of lovely painted figures!!!
Thanks Ray, I wanted to try something different and have been interested in the period for a while now.
Congratulations Simon!!!
You made a great choice, also the troops involved in a battle were much less than in ht napoleonic ones.
Also uniforms are very colorfull. On my opinion the Royalist Army at Viluma is the most colorful one.
You can take a look at Regimientos de America web site (www.regimientosdeamerica.com) in the Booklet section.
I would like to see your work in progress
Very excited for these! Keep posting the works in progress.
I will be working on some Royalists next, probably advancing just to vary things a bit, but still deciding whether to do them wearing the blue uniform or the Brin uniform.
As these are different to my previous figures I am also doing some new horses, I had forgotten how difficult they are, my first two are headed for the bin!
